HSCI 3210 - Health Data Visualization and Communication

Students will utilize interactive data visualization software to identify patterns and trends through the creation of dashboards, maps, graphs, and charts. Standards of exchanging communication related to health data will be examined. Students will explore the implications of classification systems, clinical vocabularies, and nomenclature during data entry on data visualization. Students will examine the implications of data management practices throughout the data lifecycle on security and quality. At the conclusion of the course, students will be able to create effective visualizations utilizing data retrieved from various health related databases to convey conclusions directly and clearly. May be repeated for a total of 3 units. Open to Health Science majors only. Open to Juniors and Seniors only.

Prerequisites: HSCI 3200.

Hours: Lecture, 2 hours; laboratory, 2 hours
