NURS 5430 - Neuroscience and Psychopharmacology

(Formerly “Neuroscience for the Advanced Practice Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner”) Advanced concepts in neuroscience and the pharmacologic management of targeted psychiatric symptoms, related to the treatment of psychiatric disorders in the major categories of mental illness. The course reflects current scientific knowledge of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neurochemistry, and its application to clinical problems seen in a variety of settings with a focus on the neuroscience of psychopharmaceuticals, including the mechanism of action, common therapeutic indications, and physiological/behavioral side-effects.

Corequisites: Students will follow the roadmap for the certification program.

Prerequisites: Admission to the Post Masters Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certificate program.
