ECEC 4104 - STEM Education for Early Learners4 unit(s) Teacher candidates will engage in a variety of activities and learning opportunities focused on the Constructivist Approach to teaching pedagogy in STEM education. Teacher candidates will learn the developmental progressions on how PK-3 students learn STEM content and how to build Depths of Knowledge and understanding within classroom settings. Additionally, teacher candidates will learn how to “unpack” STEM standards to develop lessons conducive to inquiry, taking PK-3 student’s ideas seriously, encouraging intellectual risks, and invite questioning. Teacher candidates will learn the importance of creating inclusive environments that focus on belonging and encourage PK-3 students to stay inquisitive about the world in which they live.
Prerequisites: Admission to Early Childhood Education Credential (ECEC) program.
