ECEC 4212 - Student Teaching Practicum II K-3

4 unit(s)
Course is designed to provide field experience for teacher candidates for the Early Childhood Education Credential (ECEC). While enrolled in this 8-week practicum for K-3 settings. Student teachers will participate in a student teaching experience under the supervision of a cooperating teacher and a University Supervisor. During teaching experiences, candidates begin by observing the cooperating teacher and other teachers in the school and gradually begin to assume responsibility for teaching, first in tutorials with individual students, then for groups and eventually the whole class. We encourage a co-teaching model where the student teacher and cooperating teacher together plan and teach lessons. The student teacher will be required to assume all the duties of a classroom teacher including lesson planning, lesson presentations that attend to literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies, student assessment, curriculum planning, fostering inclusive learning environments designed with a ‘sense of belonging’, and incorporate technology-based, play-based learning, interdisciplinary, and culturally and environmentally relevant learning. Furthermore, the student teacher will complete all additional duties related to teaching, including, but not limited to, yard duty, daily attendance, parent conferences, back-to-school/open house, IEP meetings (with parent permission), faculty meetings, etc.  Open to Early Childhood Education Credential majors only.

Prerequisites: Admission to Early Childhood Education Credential program.
