MUS 4453 - Piano Literature II2 unit(s) Study of selected major piano works of representative master composers from the Romantic Era through the Contemporary Era. Course surveys the literature for keyboard instruments from the mid-19th to 21st centuries, with emphasis on major and secondary keyboard works from the Romantic Era to the 20th century. Topics of study will include the examination of significant important musical genres, forms, and works in the keyboard repertoire; study of select and representative interpretive performance as relates to developments in period instrumentation; and philosophies of major musical and theoretical developments. On a macro-level , this survey considers musical, aesthetic, intellectual, emotional, social, political, technological, and economic trends represented through the impact of keyboard music development in European art music and its ensuing developments in the Americas and in Asia through the contemporary age.
