MBIO 2010 - Microbiology for Allied Health4 unit(s) (Formerly Microbiology for Nursing) Introduction to the basic concepts and principles of microbiology as it affects human health. Topics include an overview of disease transmission, immunology, physical and chemical methods of disease prevention and infection control, and discussions of select infectious diseases of the body systems. Basic microbiological laboratory techniques will also be presented and laboratory exercises will demonstrate practical laboratory skills pertaining to basic microbiology in the healthcare arena. Course may not be used as a Biology major elective.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of two of these three courses: CHEM 2100 or equivalent, anatomy and/or physiology, or consent of instructor.
Hours: (Lecture, 3 hours; laboratory, 3 hours)
