LIBS 1000 - Introduction to Classroom Experiences3 unit(s) Course introduces students to the profession of teaching and elementary education and provides experiential learning opportunities in elementary classrooms that will foster self-exploration, reflection, and preliminary teaching skills. Course topics include: an overview of the history and philosophies of education, the California State Content Standards, the California Teacher Performance Expectations, 21st century skills, culturally sustaining pedagogies, asset-oriented instruction, and growth mindset. Fingerprint clearance from the University Police Department and tuberculosis clearance are required. Field experience placements may be limited or unavailable for students with felony convictions.
