ETHS 2100 - Introduction to Chicanx and Latinx Studies

The lower-division interdisciplinary course examines how Chicano/a/x and Latino/a/x Studies emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s during an intensified political context in the U.S. and around the world. Students, faculty, and community members organized to improve their realities, which included establishing and institutionalizing the field in higher education. Grounded in this history, the course introduces students to: 1) the origins and contours of Chicano/a/x and Latino/a/x Studies; 2) the social context that influenced Chicano/a/x and Latino/a/x protest movements of the 1960s; 3) activist movements of Chicano/a/x and Latino/a/x communities through regional, national, and/or global perspectives; and 4) the value of Chicano/a/x and Latino/a/x scholarship, creativity, and social change.
