ETHS 3900 - Writing, Race, and Power (WP)3 unit(s) The purpose of this upper division course is to examine writings that focus on the subject of race and other forms of power (including those of ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality). In particular, the course explores how writing is central to both the production and deconstruction of race and power. Students will read essays from authors of underrepresented backgrounds who write about writing in relation to their marginalized experiences. Students will also examine racial controversies that are central to Ethnic Studies and society and how violence works across intersectional identities. Throughout the course, students will practice various forms of writing, such as creative, persuasive, and analytical forms. The course concludes with students engaging their writings in a creative and/or public way.
Satisfies upper-division writing proficiency requirement.
Prerequisites: Recommend ETHS 2050.
