MATH 1000 - Excursions into Mathematics

4 unit(s)
An introductory course for students majoring in disciplines that do not require any specified mathematics courses. The emphasis is placed on how to apply mathematics to “real-life” problems, instead of rote memorization. Topics covered are at the discretion of the instructor, which may be chosen from voting theory, fair division, financial mathematics, networks and Euler circuits, number theory and encryption, geometry, rubber sheet geometry, fractals, and probability. As the course progresses through topics, the instructor may take time to cover any background material students may need.

Satisfies G.E. area B4.
