CJ 4985 - Crime Intelligence and Analysis3 unit(s) The course provides students with an introduction to crime intelligence and analysis. Through lectures and labs with hands-on exercises, students learn how to collect, collate, corroborate, analyze and disseminate crime data and intelligence for law enforcement. The course introduces students to intelligence-led and predictive policing, to the contributions of crime analysts and other intelligence positions to law enforcement, and to the limitations of using technology in law enforcement. This applied course will also introduce students (i) to Excel, SPSS and ArcGIS Online to map and analyze crime, and (ii) to how to disseminate intelligence to law enforcement to aid operational and investigative personnel in meeting crime prevention objectives and department goals.
Prerequisites: CJ 2250 and CJ 2280, or consent from instructor
