HIST 3900 - Arab-Islamic World: 600 to 1800

An introduction to the subject of Islam as a religion and civilization dealing with the succession problem after Muhammad’s death and with the various dynasties that ruled in the Middle East from the seventh to the nineteenth centuries. The various facets of the Arab/Islamic civilization will be studied. The relationship between the Middle East and the West will be closely examined.

Prerequisites: One year of college-level history or consent of instructor.
