Across college campuses nationwide, students report they are struggling to meet their basic needs while balancing their academic journey. The Stanislaus State community has come together to address barriers to student success inside and outside the classroom, including food, housing, and financial insecurity. The Basic Needs department includes programs and initiatives such as: the Warrior Food Pantry, Food Distribution, CalFresh application assistance, the Campus Cares student emergency fund, temporary housing placements, emergency meal cards, and non-clinical case management.

Warrior Food Pantry

The Warrior Food Pantry provides stable support for students experiencing hunger at the Turlock and Stockton Campuses. The pantry provides perishable and non-perishable food items and toiletries to enrolled students.

Food Distribution

The Food Distribution is an event designed to provide relief to students facing food insecurity by providing students with a box of non-perishable food items. Food Distributions are held twice a month at the Turlock campus and made possible by the generous support from the California Faculty Association (CFA), and the United Samaritans Foundation.

CalFresh

Basic Needs Leads and Coordinators can assist students with the CalFresh application process. If eligible, low-income individuals and families can receive money each month to buy the food they need to stay healthy. In addition, students can participate in our NOONtrition program that takes place once a month. Starting with an ingredient pickup and wrapping up with a LIVE food demonstration, students can get an extra meal and grow their cooking skill set.

Campus Cares

To support students experiencing a crisis or emergency, the Campus Cares program allocates financial assistance through grants, connects students to short-term temporary housing, provides emergency meal e-gift cards, and refers students to additional campus and community resources.

Basic Needs Ambassadors

Students can get involved as a Basic Needs Ambassador. The ambassador program raises awareness of the struggles faced by Warriors who are experiencing food and housing insecurity by destigmatizing the access of  basic needs resources and educating the campus on the programs available to support students’ basic needs.

  4. Leadership Development - Offer workshops, experiences, and conferences  www.csustan.edu/sld/leadership-programs
