Academic Programs

The University offers a rich mix of 44 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate programs (17 master’s programs, seven post-graduate credentials, and a doctorate in educational leadership). Programs are offered at the Turlock campus and the Stanislaus State Stockton Campus . Additionally, Office of Extended and International Education  represents Stanislaus State as a self-support division that offers a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, professional development courses and certificates and international education opportunities at both the Turlock campus and the Stockton Campus, as well as through hybrid and fully online modes of instruction. Outstanding Community Service Award

Dr. Xamuel Bañales
Anthropology, Geography and Ethnic Studies

Dr. Bañales has served in various roles as part of the Ethnic Studies program here at Stanislaus State and currently as the program director. He also assists with organizing various cultural events on campus and in the local community such as, Day of the Dead and Indigenous Peoples Day events along with advising the Ethnic Studies Student Club and the Queer and Trans People of Color Collective. Through the program and the various organizations, Dr. Bañales has given selflessly his time, energy, and attention to promoting diversity, equity, and social justice not only here at Stan State but the Central Valley region.

Outstanding Professor

Dr. Kurt Baker
Psychology

Dr. Baker has had an incredible impact on his colleagues and his students during his time at Stanislaus State in the Department of Psychology. He is a mentor to many and continues to demonstrate and integrate influential teaching practices into his courses. Students have described Dr. Baker a great listener, a creative instructor, and an advisor who helps students envision career and academic paths that are both bold and attainable. His colleagues describe him as someone who can connect with students quickly and meaningfully, developing relationships built on trust and empathy.

Outstanding RSCA Award

Dr. Panos Petratos
Management Information Systems

Dr. Petratos has made significant contributions to the Department of Management Information Systems at Stanislaus State and his field. He has written a book along with dozens of articles and chapters for other books, academic journals, and conference proceedings. Outside of his publications, Dr. Petratos has also delivered 30 conference presentations, acted as a Co-Chair for an international conference and was an invited speaker for two other international conferences regarding information quality and copyright law for digital intellectual property in cyberspace.

Outstanding Faculty Governance Award

Dr. Chris Nagel
Philosophy and Modern Languages

Dr. Nagel has participated in remarkable levels of university engagement and service in regard to shared governance on campus. His advocacy for lecturers to be included in faculty governance has been a central part to his contributions and success. Dr. Nagel has played a vital role in the inclusion of lecturers as fellow colleagues and members of the profession. His colleagues consistently comment on his commitment to shared governance and his ability to dissect problems and communicate solutions to all involved parties on campus.

Dr. Renato Alvim
Philosophy and Modern Languages

Dr. Alvim has not only built meaningful relationships with his students and colleagues but has also revitalized the Portuguese Program here at Stanislaus State. His colleagues have referenced his passion for the language and culture as the powerhouse behind the growing program. By starting a Portuguese Club and taking on the role as Director of the Portuguese Program, Dr. Alvim demonstrates his commitment to student engagement and student success.

Vasché Library

The mission of the University’s Vasché Library is to provide access to information resources and services that facilitate teaching, learning and research, and to provide an environment that encourages and enables those in our diverse community to expand their intellectual, cultural and artistic horizons. The collections of the University Library include more than 370,000 volumes, 841 print journal subscriptions, access to 141 electronic databases and a growing number of electronic journals, video recordings and compact discs. There are also more than 7,000 e-books from which to choose. Approximately 5,000 books are acquired each year. Since 1965, the library has been a partial depository of federal, state and local documents. Other special collections include the University archive, with documents on local and University history, the juvenile collection, which has more than 6,000 volumes of award-winning and notable titles in children’s literature, and the Francis Sargis Modern Assyrian Heritage Collection. The Vasché Library will undergo extensive remodeling beginning in 2019 and will be closed through summer 2021.
