EDMS 4121 - Mathematics Methods

(3 Units)
This course is an introduction to the methods and materials used in the teaching of mathematics in grades K-8.  Emphasis is on instructional planning, concept development and the use of manipulatives for instruction as outlined in the California Mathematics Framework.  Students will examine the issues shaping mathematics education today.  Emphasis will be placed on preparing teachers to work in diverse classrooms, and on using principles from the California Mathematics Framework and Common Core Standards to inform classroom practice and engage students in purposeful mathematics learning.

Prerequisites: Admission into the Multiple Subjects or Education Specialist Credential Program.
